Ashton Asset Mapping
The Ashton Networking Committee*
and the AABA are joining efforts to bring you a
Free Business Directory. The vision is
to detail the products and services available from our local
business locations, work-at-home entrepreneurs, our e-Commerce salesman,
local craftsman, and other treasures hidden within our community.
The tool chosen to collect this data is called
"asset mapping". Asset mapping, as proposed by the Asset-Based Community
Development Institute (ABCD),
is a program designed to help communities find and capitalize upon their own
inherent gifts rather than becoming overly dependent upon outside resources.
"Building on the skills of local residents,
the power of local associations, and the supportive functions of
local institutions, asset-based community development draws
upon existing community strengths to build stronger,
more sustainable communities for the future." (Quote taken from the
(ABCD) web site.)

Surveys Being Distributed
Surveys are currently being distributed and collected by
the members of the Networking Committee (a continuation of
local volunteers who came together from the Horizons program).
An on-line version of that survey will
be provided at this site at a later date.
A PDF version of the survey
is available now. Instructions for returning the form
are included on the last page.
*The Ashton Networking Committee is a group of volunteers
that are continuing their efforts to connect the Ashton
area beyond the scope of the Horizons program which officially ended
its Ashton's presence in April of 2010. The positive influence of
all the community-based training Horizons sponsored will be felt
here for a long time.
